Family trip to Oklahoma!

Remington Park Casino

Remington Park Casino

My family and I wanted to take a break from our routine last week, so we decided to make a weekend trip to Oklahoma City. Our friends Joanna and Hal had told us about the Remington Park racing Casino, and we knew we had to go. Normally in South Carolina Horse Racing isn't so available for gamblers like Bob and I, so we were pretty ecstatic about this.

There were about 6 races every hour - one every 10 minute. I had never bet on horses before, but the crowd made it very exciting. They had stewardess' walking around offering their help on strategies and how to pick the right horse. We followed some of her guidelines and ended up picking 3 winning horses - giving us a total of $800 in winnings! Quite impressive, although I'm sure this is just beginners luck.

Mickey Mantle's Steakhouse bar
Obviously we had to go celebrate (right?!), so we went over to one of the best Steakhouses in town. Mickey Mantle's Steakhouse was the one we decided to go with. We saw so many glowing reviews for this place, that I think our expectations might have been too high. The steaks were overcooked, but the waiter was nice enough to give us a 20% discount to make up for it.

Finally at night we went back to the hotel for a good nights sleep. We knew we'd be out all day so didn't bother booking a fancy hotel. We looked over many hotels in Oklahoma City and found a real affordable one just outside of Bricktown - the Bricktown Hotel and Convention Center. You can find them at www.bricktownhotelokc.com/. It only cost us about $149 for the whole weekend - what a great deal!

Finally we had home Sunday evening to get back in time for work the next day. We stopped off at the Park Avenue Grill for a quick early supper, and came back home. I hope to get some pictures up for you guys shortly!
